History

Dr. Frank C. Jacobs founded the Summit Choral Society in 1990. That year, four concerts were presented by our “Masterworks Chorale” of adult voices. Since then, the Summit Choral Society has continued to present a four-concert series in a variety of venues throughout Akron. The increasingly popular “Christmas Candlelight Concerts” have witnessed virtually sold-out performances.

In an effort to expand the educational aspect of the organization, the “Summit Children’s Choir Program” was created in 1991. Beginning with a single choir in the inaugural season, the program has now expanded to offer two separate divisions – Training and Performance – and includes four levels of training classes and three separate performing ensembles. This program has an enrollment of over 250 children (boys and girls from second through twelfth grade) attending more than over 80 different Northeast Ohio schools, with families residing in six different counties.
